Great British Bead Show 2013 - Thursday 9th to Sunday 12th May

The Great British Bead Show (GBBS)

The original and largest gathering of beadworkers in the UK.

Is sponsored and organised by The Beadworkers Guild, fulfilling our aim of bringing beadworkers together. Indulge yourself and celebrate with us at the largest beadwork event in the UK.

GBBS is a four day event, from Thursday to Sunday in May every two years, the next event is May 2013. We offer a range of wonderful workshops, to appeal to both experienced beadworkers and the absolute novice

Thursday:  Our programme begins with a Masterclass for the more experienced beader and several other workshops suitable for all levels. While the workshops are in progress our panel of judges will be busy assessing the 'Challenge' competion entries and selecting the winning pieces. In hotel foyer we also have our display of members work with the colour theme for the current year.

Friday: More workshops are on offer, with experienced tutors from the UK and abroad. The annual Challenge is on view to members and during breaks they have the opportunity to cast a vote for their favourite piece. All votes must be cast by 6pm Saturday.

On Friday evening we have an after dinner lecture

Saturday: Workshops throughout the day. After class, time to freshen up before pre dinner drinks and mingling in the bar, dinner is followed by:

The Annual General Meeting of The Beadworkers Guild

This is our opportunity to report back to the membership and explain our progress. Join us to find out more about our works in progress for the Guild. This is followed by the Guild’s annual Challenge competition awards and details of future events.

Sunday: Workshops in the morning for members.

You have the agonising task of selecting your favourites. Please indicate your 1st, 2nd and 3rd choice classes for each day on the booking form. Class sizes will not exceed 16. If minimum numbers are not achieved for a particular class, we reserve the right to cancel that class and refund you all monies paid or to transfer you to another available class of your choice.

Tutor submissions for 2013

If you are interested in teaching a class at The Great British Bead Show 2013, please read on.

The Guild is keen to have a variety of subjects from the following areas:

3 dimensional beadwork, vessels, freeform and embellished techniques. Wearable jewellery items usually prove to be popular. We will consider classes with an element of other disciplines too, for instance embroidery with beads, tambour work, crochet, knitting, tatting, wirework, mixed media and beadmaking with polymer clay.

The main component must be beads and all projects should be New designs for launching at The Great British Bead Show and not published or sold prior to the event.

One day workshops are preferable as this allows more members to be involved, though some challenging projects for two day workshops will also be considered.

A number of half day workshop are also needed including some suitable for beginners.

We require an example of the finished work, with a list of requirements, please indicate experience levels required, a copy of your C.V and references which attest to your teaching ability and experience. If you have taught for the Guild previously we already have your CV and references on file so no need to send them again.

Submissions must be with me by Saturday 25th May 2012. Please protect yourself against loss or damage by using an appropriate postal method and post your piece(s) to:

Sylvia Fairhurst, 11,RandolphClose, Bradville,Milton Keynes. MK13 7JN

If selected we will need a sample handout. We will also need a short class description for our publicity material

You will receive a fee for teaching, your meals, accommodation and travelling expenses will be covered by the Guild. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

Links and a summary of our previous event

The Great British Bead Show 2011 was a great success, here are some comments from members who attended the event:

"I have been feeling a little jaded where beading has been concerned and this weekend as given me back the inspiration to start playing around with the beads again"

"The organisation was superb. 10 out of 10 for both of my classes."

"This year is the first time I had been for the whole 4 days and I found it so stimulating.  In fact, although I bead everyday anyway, I am now dreaming beads and Monday morning had to get out of bed at 4.00am to write down the pattern which was whizzing about in my head!"
