BWG Challenge Rules and Conditions

The Beadworkers Guild 13th Annual Challenge

Theme: ‘It's All In The Game’

Deadline for entries: Friday 6th April, 2012

All who enter this competition do so for their own pleasure, to promote their talents and to give enjoyment to others. Although prizes are awarded to each winner they are a token gesture only.

The winning pieces will be retained by the Guild for a period of 12 months to promote beadwork around the UK with our display of members’ work.

Any beadwork technique or combination of techniques may be used and there are no restrictions on the type of item you submit. You may, for example, consider making an item of jewellery, an accessory, a three dimensional or sculptural piece, a wall hanging or a framed piece.

Status of BWG member, for judging purposes:

Previous winners of status groups 1 & 2 may only enter at the next level ie: Previous winners at beginner status must now enter as intermediate.

The BWG reserves the right to challenge the member’s declaration of status on the entry form.

  1. Novice/Beginner: Up to 2 years experience
  2. Intermediate: More than 2 and less than 5 years experience
  3. Experienced / Professional: 5 years experience. All who receive payment for teaching or commissions, you must enter this category regardless of duration of experience. I.e. If you accept payment for teaching or sell your work commercially after beading for only 1 year you must enter this category. Entrants in the Experienced category are asked to include a short artist’s statement. This should be a brief statement of up to 100 words, describing what inspired you and how you interpreted the Challenge theme.
  4. Group Entry

Tips: Ensure your finishing is clean, ie: no tufts of thread showing. If it’s a wearable piece, make sure the fastening works and it is comfortable to wear. If using glue, to attach beadwork to a structure if some kind. Think! Make sure it is not visible and remember glue and beadwork are not always compatible, the glue often hardens and becomes brittle and the beadwork falls off. We know from past experience.

Bead storage box or bead related item.
Group winners:
An article in the Beadworkers Guild Journal profiling participating members and featuring the story of how their piece evolved.
