The 2008 Regional Day was held on Saturday 10th May, and the theme was Inspiration from the Victorian & Edwardian era
The Regional Day is a biennial event organised by the Beadworkers Guild alternating with the GBBS, and is held in a different area of the UK each time. The event is held over a weekend, with a beading Round Robin held on the Saturday, followed by the Guild AGM, and a Bead Bazaar on the Sunday, a chance to stock up from a variety of beading suppliers. Throughout the event the entries to the Challenge are displayed and judged, with the winners announced at the AGM.
In 2008 we hosted our event at: Selsdon Park Hotel & Golf Club, Addington Road, Sanderstead, South Croydon, Surrey. CR2 8YA
Our aim was, as always, to bring beadworkers together, to meet other members, have a fun filled day and satisfy our urge to bead.
We hope we inspired, helped and encouraged everyone to design and develop their skills by viewing source materials from our collection and using these as inspiration. There were many objects and samples on display to choose from. We had some graphed images prepared for the not so confident, but from those with oodles of confidence we saw some wonderful ideas being developed.
On Friday evening there was time to relax in the bar and get to know other guests, explore the historic elements of the hotel or sit on the terrace and enjoy the view.
On Saturday beading began at 9am. After a brief introduction everyone was set free to select their own beading path. After lunch everyone was moved around to allow guests to meet new people, make new friends and share ideas. During the day there was the chance to view and vote for the favourite Challenge piece. The AGM took place after dinner to round off the day.
On Sunday we shopped!!! A variety of traders were invited to tempt people to spend their money.
We hope all who attended had a wonderful time
