Cascade Days

What is a Cascade Day?

A Cascade Day is a local Guild event that replicates the biennial Regional day on a smaller scale. The aim is to give as many members as possible the opportunity to share the experience of the biennial event, experimenting with a number of techniques and sharing new skills. Each time there is a different theme at the Regional day, and that theme will carry through the year with the Cascade Days.

The Cascade Day is intended to serve existing members and though we would encourage organizers to welcome non members, we must be sure that at least half the attendees are current members of The Beadworkers Guild.

The details below give you some idea of what is involved.

How do we book one?

If you would like to organise a Cascade Day in your area, please contact Shows Organiser Jane Sadgrove on 0870 200 1250.

Note, the best time of the year is between May and August to take advantage of summer light and to avoid clashing with major craft shows.

Then what do we do?

The Guild member who organizes the day will be responsible for:

  • Advertising the event locally and enrolling participants.
(We specify a minimum of 15 attendees to make the day worthwhile, 50% of whom should be current Guild members).
  • Dealing with enquiries and bookings.
  • Booking the venue with access from 9am – 5pm, to allow 1 hour each end of the day for set up and break down. Publish hours for the Cascade day 10am – 4pm
  • Arranging refreshments if appropriate.
  • Collecting fees and dealing with the finances for the day.

What will the Guild provide?

The Guild provides the following:

  • Insurance for the event.
  • An information booklet that will explain how to organise a successful day.
  • Publicity material.
  • The workbooks that were provided at the main Regional Day.

One of the Trustees will attend the event to act as a facilitator. The Guild's shows organizer will come to the event with the Guild's stand, including beadwork displays. Attendees will be able to buy publications and join the Guild if they wish.

The Guild will charge £5 per head members, £8 non members, to cover the cost of the workbooks and a contribution towards the expenses of the attending Trustee and shows organizer.

Guild Study Days

Interested in historic beadwork? Then our new Beadwork Study Days are for you. The Guild has a small but interesting collection of beadwork and it has long been our wish to make it available to members for study.

We shall be making some lovely pieces available from our collection for your ‘in-depth and personal’ study. The selection will be from Europe and around the world and will include a wide range of techniques and styles.

You will be able to handle the beadwork (with care), make notes and sketches and take photographs. If you wish, you can get out your beads and experiment with recreating a technique or pattern that takes your fancy. We shall be on hand to give as much information about the beadwork as we can, but please note that we shall not be providing tutors or instruction.

The cost is only £15 for the day.

Please complete it and send with your payment to Samantha Ellery at BWG Study Day, 42-46 Lower Gravel Road, Bromley, Kent. BR2 8LJ as soon as possible to be sure of a place.

Please contact Liz Thornton if you would like the Guild to hold a study day in your area, email eathornton@btinternet.com or tel: 0208 291 5029.
