Friday 11th - Sunday 13th May 2018

Are you ready for another fun filled event of beady togetherness?

May 2018 is time for our AGM and biennial Beading Festival, a chance to meet other members and Trustees and to find inspiration for your beading. This is a great weekend full of activities and if you have never been to one of our AGM events before make sure you don’t miss this one!

Friday’s workshops

We begin the event on Friday with classes by two experienced beadwork designers and tutors to inspire your work. Mairi Carlton will be giving guidance on how to design your own work and Ruth Vickery will be looking at how to select and use colour.

Friday evening

Another great speaker to entertain us after dinner.

Saturday’s Bead-In

On Saturday we all bead together in the same room to the same theme, this year the theme is Art Deco. The day will be filled with inspiration from our colourful displays and artefacts, to help you choose colours or styles for designing your own unique piece of beadwork.

If that makes you nervous then worry not, there will be lots of help on hand. We also provide a handout featuring several projects that have been worked in advance by your faithful trustees (and one or two other volunteers), to give you a choice of subjects to work on.

The Art Deco style is bold, simple, streamlined and bright, combining modernist styles with fine craftsmanship and rich materials. Its intention was to create a sleek elegance, which influenced fashion, jewellery, accessories, décor, ceramics, furniture and architecture. In fact once you start to research this style it’s surprising how far reaching its influence was. You can start researching now or wait until we meet in May and see what we managed to find together. Either way we’re sure you will be hooked on Art Deco after the event.

Saturday evening

The Guild’s AGM takes place on Saturday evening and is an opportunity for you to find out what the Guild has been up to during the last year and our plans for the future. Challenge winners will be announced, together with new themes for the following year’s Challenge and colour display.

Sunday’s Bead Fair

The Guild’s Bead Bazaar, one of the best bead fairs in the country, is free for all members and a great opportunity to see all the latest products on the market.
